You might be wondering, just two ingredients… really? That’s right. Just two ingredients: tomatoes and celery salt. Stop buying the processed grocery store tomato juice and start making your own!

Never heard of celery salt? It’s both a pinch of salt and crushed celery seeds combined. The salt paired with the sweet nature of tomato juice also pairs perfectly together to create a mouthwatering combo that will quench your thirst and leave you wanting more!

The Best Tomato Juice Recipe

This homemade tomato juice recipe provides both a great flavor and a great way to give nourishment to your body! It’s super easy to make and refreshing to know you aren’t consuming the added sugar you’d normally find at the grocery store. Instead it has a natural sweetness that can’t be beat!

Even though there are only two ingredients, it’s full of filling, naturally sweet and savory flavor. It’s perfect as an iced juice or hot tea—the choice is up to you. Some like to garnish their fresh tomato juice with a celery stick, fresh parsley, or fresh basil. Or sprinkle in a little cayenne pepper or black pepper, but only do this if you like a kick of heat, otherwise stick to the basics for best results!

How to Make Tomato Juice

Pulse tomatoes in food processor or blender until smooth and liquid.

Place a cheesecloth over a cup or bowl and pour the tomato mixture into it.  You can also use a fine mesh strainer. To quicken the process, press down with a spoon, so the juice squeezes out.  Discard the tomatoes on top of cheesecloth (compost!).

Add celery salt into the cup and stir.

Serve and enjoy your fresh tomato juice!

Storing Leftovers

Store leftover tomato juice in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. If stored properly, leftover tomato juice can last up to two to three days. If you’d like it to last longer, you can store it in freezer containers and place it in the freezer for up to eight to twelve months.

Tomato Juice FAQs

Is Homemade tomato juice good for you?

Yes, tomato juice is great because it does provide health benefits and is rich in nutrients. For example, tomatoes have an abundance of vitamin C, potassium, and b vitamins. Tomatoes also have super antioxidant properties, help lower cholesterol, and are heart-friendly!

Can I make a whole pitcher of this tomato juice?

Absolutely, just double, triple, or more this recipe. This is a great way to use your garden tomatoes! Add into a pitcher and store in the refrigerator for a few days.

Can I use regular salt?

Although celery salt is preferred for tomato juice, you can use regular salt if you have to. You might want to add a little less if using plain salt.

How do you preserve tomato juice at home?

Home canning. First time canning? If you haven’t done it before, home canning is fairly easy. Place tomato juice in canning jars and close the lid tight. Boil in a hot water bath for 10 minutes. Then let the jars sit at room temperature until cool. Then you can keep it for up to one year, but once it’s opened, you need to use it within a week and store it in the refrigerator.

How do you make tomato juice by hand?

Although a blender will definitely make this recipe easier, it is possible to make tomato juice by hand. The first step is to soften the tomatoes. Let the tomatoes simmer in a large pan over medium heat with a splash of water for roughly 20-30 minutes. Once that step is done, through a sieve, extract the juice by hand or press down on the tomatoes with a large spoon or potato masher and let it drip into a bowl to catch the juice.

What can you do with leftover tomato juice?

These are just a few of my favorite ways to use extra tomato juice: make Spanish rice, add it to soup, or turn it into a salad dressing. Or you can make a bloody mary or two! Check out my other tomato recipes here!
